32-bit with 64-bit memory extensions.

Can anyone from Microsoft tell us if Yukon will support the x86-64
architecture that is available in the Opteron chip and soon to be available
in the Xeon chip set? the reason for this is we use Microsoft Analytical
Services and SQL Server quite extensively here and the 2.7 GB memory
limitation in MSAS is killing us on cube builds.

|||This applies to SQL Server and not the MSAS component. That component is
written to handle only 2.7 GB of memory in the 32 bit world. It is unlimited
in a 64-bit world.

might be included in build 818. MS03-031 Security Bulletin. If it is a
build prior to build 818 you can downlad the MS03-031 and get the fix there.

Hi all of you who've had a chance to play with 2005...
I have two quick questions with triggers in 2005.
1. Will there be available true "BEFORE" triggers as opposed to the "INSTEAD
OF" triggers?
2. Will triggers now be fire-able in a "FOR EACH ROW" style as opposed to
bulk triggers?

Could you explain exactly why you want to do that. There's bound to be
a better solution (i.e. set-based code rather than row-at-a-time).

2005 - Remove Old Backups

Is there a way to remove backups older than a certain number of days with a
generic 2005 maintenance plan. I looked through the basic tasks available
and I did not see this option. There is an option to remove old history
(i.e. logs) but I did not see a task to remove old backups.
This functionality was available with the SQL Server 2000 maintenance plans.

As Andrew has mentioned, there does exists the Maintenance Task for
cleaning up backup files in the SQL 2005's Maintenance Plan items... (also
available in sql server 2000 through the maintenance plan creation
wizard...).
Create a new maintenance plan in sql2005 management studio, and in the
"Maintenance Plan Task" toolbox, choose the "Maintenance cleanup task",
there has setting for removing backup files of certain age of time....
