20536: Unable to logon server

I have VB 6.0 Application calling Crystal Report 7.0 based on SQL Server 2000 datbase.

I use the LogonServer method with parameter p2ssql.dll to make the database connection.

I have used the above method for my Crystal Report for last 6 years and worked fine until now but now I get the "20536: Unable to logon server " in few XP OS machines.

This again works in the test XP machine I have used, I have almost tried all things I can try to fix the problem.

Does anyone have similar problems and if so how they dealt with it.

Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

ThanksHigher security levels in XP, at a guess.
Do you have subreports??
If so, you may find that before your OS was allowing subreports to use login info from parent report, but now is breaking because OS demands you supply login info for each subreport.
In which case. iterate thru subreports collection and supply same login info to each subreport.

2005 URL ris:format=PDF not working

Using the new reporting services I am unable to get the report to go straight
to a pdf...I can select export and it goes fine...below is my url:
http://localhost/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2fPassParemetersOnUrl%2fPassUrlTest&rs%3ACommand=Render&rs%3Aformat=PDF&lastname=jones
what am ai doing wrong? Is everything on one machine? Or are you using IE from one machine and RS is
on another?
I was just doing this myself (with CSV instead of PDF) and I found that the
global variable Globals!ReportServerUrl is putting in localhost instead of
the server name (I see below that you have localhost which is why I was
wondering if you are seeing the same issue). If I go to the server and use a
browser from there then my jump to URL works.

Rendering is the default so you can leave it off the line.
Try to match my pattern here and hopefully it will work for you. The user
will still have to click open, it will not automatically open

What I am looking for is to simulate the report server actions of selecting
the PDF format and clicking the export link,
opens another window and its converted to the PDF format but already open to
the PDF viewer.
Then if the user wants to save it from there they can, butthe ofrmatting
seems more stable this way.
Is this not possible with the url?

open/save dialog. Now it is opening it up in the browser. It seems like if
the export functionality can open it up in the browser then we should be
able to do it with the URL. I tried several things and cannot get it to
happen. I will use my MS contacts to see if there is a way to do this.

2005 SP 1 Install Failure Solution - Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file

This is posted for others who have
If this error occurs here is what worked for me. I hope it may work for you
but am not sure.
In my case I had SQL Express 2005 Installer on my system as well as I run
both (one for development, one for production).
Shut down all SQL related services manually.
I set registry permissions on Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
to include the account that is doing the install with Full Control. Click
Advanced and make sure everything is selected.
I downloaded and ran the SQL Install Cleanup and removed the SQL 2005 Setup
Files Installer and the SQL Express Installer. I then reinstalled the SQL
Setup Files (ONLY!!!!!) from my SQL Server 2005 CD. If you don't don't do
this you won't be able to use the SP.
Q290301 OFFXP: Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

I then reinstalled the SP and it worked.
Hope this helps somebody.
Special thanks to Peter Yang of Microsoft for his invaluable assistance on
this issue.

2005 Reporting Services Configuration Issues

Hi All -

I am trying to configure reporting services on virtual machine but unable to succeed. I never touched this topic before SQL Server 2005. The left hand side options in Reporting Services Configuration Manager such as Server Status, Virtual Directories, Web Identity works fine but it fails in Database Setup section

Here are the details:

AppServer: SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services & Client components build# 2153 (with SP1 & SP1 hotfix)

going to apply SP2 and Add-on component after the configuration

DBServer: SQL Server 2005 Database Services & Client components build# 2153 (with SP1 & SP1 hotfix)

OS: Windows 2003 Server with SP1

IIS version on AppServer: 6

I have SQL 2005 Reporting services and 2005 Database Engine on 2 different machines.

Here is the error message I am receiving when I try to apply the script in "Database Setup" section of Reporting Services Configuration Manager

It did not log any errors in SQL Server however it shows a warning message in Event Log

Event Log message - "The RSReportServer.config file has been modified."

Configuration Manager error message - It shows me "Create a Grants Rights Script" task failed

"System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)
at System.Management.ManagementScope.InitializeGuts(Object o)
at System.Management.ManagementScope.Initialize()

at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.WebUtil.GetIPAddresses(String machine)

at ReportServicesConfigUI.Panels.DatabaseSetupPanel.SetDatabaseConnectionTask(String connectionString, String server, String database, ConfigurationCredentialsType credsType, String account, String password, Boolean upgrade, String dbVersion)"

I have captured the screenshot, let me know if I can send this.

One of my friends suggested the following and I have tried the first option but could not work - Option I)

Our account that is used for database connection should have

1) public and RSExecRole roles for the ReportServerDatabase.

2) RSExecRole roles for the master, msdb , and ReportServerTempDB databases.

Else - Option II)

we can run the Reporting Service Windows Service under the local System Account and then the credentials type for the database set up would be Service credentials. This way we would have more permission.

Did anyone face this problem? how should I resolve this?

Anyone have steps to follow as I feel of missing something in the configuration steps?

Any information/ suggestions/ pointer on this are higly appreciated.

Thanks in advance !!

We were getting this error and found that the dbo.role was not the owner of the dbo.schema. When we made that change we were able to update the database. When we originally installed and had problems with the remote database we had to make sure that database had windows authentication only.|||

TWe also escalated this issue to Microsoft Product Support Service and they suggested the following:

The account that is used for database connection should have

1) public and RSExecRole roles for the ReportServerDatabase.

2) RSExecRole roles for the master, msdb , and ReportServerTempDB databases.

Else we can run the Reporting Service Windows Service under the local System Account and then the credentials type for the database set up would be Service credentials. This way we would have more permission.

but before we had a work around however you will still find the script showing error in Reporting Services configuration manager.

We have generated the login script and executed thru' Management Studio. Verified the account permission as mentioned above.

Just ignore the error message that you see in Configuration Manager -

Configuration Manager error message - "System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

2005 FT - Unable to re-populate catalogue

Hi,
I have a clustered 2005 server (build 9.00.1399.06). On the server I have 3
FT catalogues.
When I created the first catalogue everything was fine. The catalogue built
fine and returns results correctly (sooo much quicker than 2000!). Then I
tried to do a full re-population.
The full text service appeared to hang and never re-populate the catalogue.
From various bits of testing I have found this:
Using sp_who and sp_lock I can see that the Gatherer spid is blocked by the
FT Monitor spid. The Gatherer has await resource of MD 24(7:0:0) which the
monitor has Sch-S lock on. Being a system process I cannot kill it. During
this time I cannot access the Full text screen in Man Studio (blocked again),
but I can query other catalogues.
When it appears to hang as above I tried stopping the FT service in cluster
admin. The process would not stop. I have to kill it using task manager.
After a restart of just the full text service I cannot access the FT
catalogue screen, though strangley I can't see any blocking. The catalogue
appears not to be rebuilt. I can query other catalogues fine. I cannot see
any blocking of gatherer (I can't see it in sp_who), or any other blocking
spids for that matter.
Last resort I restart the Full text service and SQL Service. Upon restarting
the catalogue starts repopulating straight away. I can access it in Man
Studio, it completes fine and everything is good. Until I try to start a full
population again. (BTW I've tried incremental and rebuilding - same as above
happens).
So in other words I have to restart the SQL service everytime I want to
re-populate my FT catalogue.
I'm hoping someone can help me. Any form of suggestion welcomed!
Thanks
I just found out that FT keeps a log. Here is part of todays output (it is
repeated several times):
2005-11-17 11:16:06.30 spid13s Warning: Full-text population for table

|||Sounds like Monitor is locking with the population process. The population
does put locks on the rows and table it is indexing to preserve
transactional consistency.
It looks like you have to do a less invasive form of monitoring.

Thanks for your reply. I agree with the cause. However the FT Monitor
process is a system process not something I have put in place!!
I don't what it is or what it does but I can't do anything to stop it. Do
you know what this process is?
Thanks

MSFTESQL service (table or indexed view ID '1253579504', catalog ID
'5',
database ID '6'). Error: 0x8001010e(The application called an interface
that
was marshalled for a different thread.).
Which occurs when I populate my catalogue.
