3197 record deleted error
i have an access MDB linked by ODBC to SQL2k.
I get a strange behaviour when i do an INSERT INTO to a local Mdb table
from "LEFT OUTER JOINED" SQL tables.
If the related table hasn't related record to the first table,
it get an Error 3167.
This behaviour is not present with MDB tables JOINS.
Who know something about this ?If you are getting an error 3167 in Access then it's likely
an access error - can't tell without the error message you
get. But that's probably the case and you would want to post
your question in an access newsgroup.

So i suppose it's an odbc problem|||Make sure you have a primary key or unique identifier
defined for your tables you are linking. Make sure the
primary key or unique identifier is not an approximate data
type (e.g. float). Try putting on timestamp data type column
on the tables you are linking.

3 / 2=1? Strange result in expression...HELP!
I have a strange thing happening; I have a field that Counts the number of
records and another field that shows the number of clients
(Count(RecordID)=3 and NoOfClients=2) When I do a simple expression
"Count(RecordID)/NoOfClients" the expected result should be 1.5. Instead
the result I get is 1. Any ideas?
Thanks!
RickTry converting one of the values to decimal. For example:
select 3/2 results in 1 BUT
select 3/2. should result in 1.5
Difference is in datatypes...

you are using integers and in integer division 3/2 is 1.
Use floats or cast your numbers to floats in the calculation:
float result=((float)Count(RecordID))/((float)NoOfClients);

You can change the archive bit from a command prompt with the ATTRIB
command. It sounds like you may have backup software running that is
resetting the bit. This should not prevent you from restoring any backup
files, perhaps there is something else going on here?
Steve

But the problem remains that the dialog that shows the backups does not show

Actually, it doesn't even care whether the file in question *exists*. My guess is that your problem
is elsewhere. You might want to troubleshoot this by doing a backup, verify that EM show this, set
the archive bit and check EM again.

You can change the archive bit from a command prompt with the ATTRIB
command. It sounds like you may have backup software running that is
resetting the bit. This should not prevent you from restoring any backup
files, perhaps there is something else going on here?
Steve|||I can reset the bit, our backup is indeed changing it.
But the problem remains that the dialog that shows the backups does not show
those without the bit. Only 1 server does it. All our other servers show
it regardless of the archive bit. I was just hoping somebody out there knew
why this was happening.
Thanks,
Doug

Actually, it doesn't even care whether the file in question *exists*. My gue
ss is that your problem
is elsewhere. You might want to troubleshoot this by doing a backup, verify
that EM show this, set
the archive bit and check EM again.

Strange...

you "click" to get
there) and I'll give it a spin. I've never encountered this, or even thought
about the archive bit
being relevant...

Interesting, though ... I copied one of the backups to another disk, turned
off the archive bit, and it showed there. Something about that drive?
Permissions? We have the Server running as an administrator's account.
Would that have anything to do with it?

of what I set the "the file is
ready for ..." option in Explorer (I assume this is the ol' archive bit).
I did a Profiler trace and it seems like EM is executing xp_dirtree to get t
his list. This might give you
something to go on when searching KB, Google etc.
Also, opening a case with MS might be an option.
I doubt is has anything to do with permissions. But who know...

well this is a strange one.
i have a sql 2005 server express running on a pc. it has an xp embedded database on it.
i can connect to it from one pc using component database manager.
however, if i try this from another pc it fails with the following code
2006-09-13 15:24:18.07 Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.
2006-09-13 15:24:18.07 Logon Login failed for user 'HOSTNAME\Guest'. [CLIENT: XX.XX.XX.XX]
.
i have simple file sharing turned of on the remote pc that fails to connect.
what is my problem.
YOu will have to disable simple filesharing at the WIndows box, because the user will be otherwise authenticated by the Guest user.

|||This has been done on both db client pcs the one that failed and the one that succeded.
explorer->tools->folder options->view->Use simple file sharing checkbox.
i unchecked this checkbox.
i then rebooted the client pc.
